Our IdeaErnie is an evolution of Ernest, our café bar.
Dreamt up in lockdown, we decided to launch a new type of shop to curate and showcase as much local produce as we could find; to explore and support super local economies, and to stock items that were kind to the planet because they didn’t have far to travel.
We wanted to create a useful shop; we began an intensive journey questioning the importance, provenance and ethics of over 1,000 products, resulting in a unique range which balances the everyday with the unusual and the luxury, the vegan and the veggie with the occasional, careful meat eaters. It will include:
- 313 super local items (within 20 miles)
- 136 local items (within 100 miles)
- 318 national items (totalling of 797 products from the UK)
- 430 International items
Out of 116 suppliers we are working directly with 91 producers, growers, farmers, or makers. Many other products are purchased through two workers co-operatives, a wine merchant who exclusively supplies goods sourced from small, often family run and mainly organic vineyards, and a company founded specifically to search out and supply lesser known British food including the black badger pea!
Our Store and Online Shop
We plan to open our physical store at the end of January 2021, with the full range available online for click and collect and a delivery service to follow. Until then, you can purchase digital gift vouchers which can be spent in either Ernie or Ernest, or drop us a line on firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to learn more.
